News about the National Dialogue

Over the weekend President Ramaphosa shared some news about the upcoming National Dialogue. It will kick off with a National Convention on 15 August. Everyone is invited. Not literally, but the Presidency says:

It will be a representative gathering bringing together government, political parties, civil society, business, labour, traditional leaders, religious leaders, cultural workers, sports organisations, women, youth, and community voices, among others.

The dialogue is supposed to be people-led and society-wide. We seek a shared vision, and to develop a new national ethos. It is an opportunity to forge a new social compact, drive progress towards Vision 2030, and lay the foundation for the next phase of the NDP.

Slightly more interesting is the eminent people that the President has nominated to guide and champion the National Dialogue. It includes a poet, beauty queen, and rugby captain. The full list is here.

This blog will be shouting loudly from the sideline about opportunity costs and trade-offs. Stay tuned.
